Writer’s Note
The hero of the novel, Denim McLeod, is a teenager with a mind that won’t rest as long as there’s a puzzle to solve – or, inevitably, trouble to get into. In the course of the novel, Denim and his three friends – Manny, Kym, and Kira – discover the long-hidden secret that unifies the original Seven Wonders of the World, learning the value of faith in one’s self and friends in the process – while, incidentally, saving the world.
Until a seemingly chance visit to the inner chambers of the Great Pyramid of Cheops, Denim is just a normal American 13 year old – with, admittedly, a passion for the fabric denim. While touring a subchamber of the pharaoh’s burial chamber, however, his inquisitive mind deciphers wall symbols that have gone unread for four millennia, setting off a sequence of magical adventures that will propel the four friends across the Mediterranean in a quest for the lost orb of Osiris. With Denim’s initial discovery, the four friends quickly learn that the original Seven Wonders – the Great Pyramid, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus, the Temple of Artemis, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes, and the Lighthouse of Alexandria – still exist, in altered or hidden form.
Furthermore, the seven sites are connected in a web of power that involves a struggle for dominance among the Gods of Olympus – in which the four friends now find themselves deeply entangled.
Under the single-minded guidance of Denim, each of the four discovers previously hidden inner strengths and talents that are awakened by the life-and-death situations they are propelled into, one after the other, until the surprising and life-altering conclusion.
