I love this kind of thing, and i'm always excited to find someone who does it well. I can't wait for it to get published so I can read the rest of it.

Yes! The hat! What an amazing hat!

Davena Sharpe over 2 years ago Posted on Sep 02, '08 at 02:41 PM

I love his hat! And the way he keeps mistaking stuff for the dragon, it's a really cute story all around. Show spoiler

I thought the writing style was a little odd in places, like the author would go from these brilliant passages to things that were just ok.

Elspeth over 2 years ago Posted on Sep 02, '08 at 02:44 PM

Ooops...

Davena Sharpe over 2 years ago Posted on Sep 02, '08 at 02:45 PM

I do agree with you on that. But overall, i think that the writing is very good. The flow is a bit off for me though.

Davena Sharpe over 2 years ago Posted on Sep 02, '08 at 02:46 PM

Yeah, it was overall really nice but it's almost like some pieces were just pounded out in a hurry and others were inspired. It kind of makes me wonder if this was a NaNoWriMo novel.

Elspeth over 2 years ago Posted on Sep 02, '08 at 02:49 PM

If you read more about it, the back cover for instance, you'll find that it is indeed a NaNoWriMo novel. You were cirrect.

That's all you can really hope for in life, that a terrorist won't confess their undying love to you.

Davena Sharpe over 2 years ago Posted on Sep 02, '08 at 03:09 PM

oops, didn't even bother with the back cover on this one. And i'm normally such a good little compulsive reader...

Stickin' up for my homeboy here: I'm buddies with Wayzgoose and heard a lot about Stn George while he was writing it last November. This is a guy who usually plots out his stories to the Nth degree (or at least to a degree for which I haven't the patience), but last year he told me he decided not to go that route. To just dive in with the skeleton of the idea in his mind.

Brave man, if you ask me. I'd be scared to death starting November without at least a chapter-by-chapter outline. But for all that, I think he did a remarkable job, and like I said in my review of the excerpt, I hope it gets published because IMHO it was just made to be an audio-book.

And if you liked the hat in this synopsis, you'll love the rest of the story. Before this book, I'd have been hard pressed to think of how someone might make a hat into a character in its own right, but there you have it.Show spoiler

I totally agree, and I think that just going into it with a barebones idea is great but it shows sometimes.

really? The hats gets more screentime? That's totally awesome! I can't wait.Show spoiler
